Scott Wasserman graduated from Harvard Law School in 1985. He worked for elite firms on Wall Street and San Francisco before becoming a partner in a commercial firm in Kansas City. He started the firm of Scott Wasserman & Associates LLC so that he and his associates could work exclusively for children and the adults who love them.
Scott Wasserman chairs the board for the Christian Foundation for Children and Aging, an international sponsorship organization that assists poor children throughout the world. He serves on the board of Turner House Children's Clinic, a pediatric medical clinic for uninsured children. He also serves on the board of Johnson & Wyandotte County CASA, which provides court appointed special advocates for children. He chairs the Independent Review Board of the Archdiocese of Kansas City in Kansas to investigate alleged sexual abuse of minors by priests. Scott co-founded TeenLink, a peer to peer agency that helps teens counsel other teens against dependency on drugs and alcohol.
The firm of Scott Wasserman & Associates has received awards and recognitions for their advocacy for children and families. Scott Wasserman was designated an Outstanding Family Advocate by Cornerstones of Care, which operates residential care facilities for youth in foster care. He was awarded the Child Attorney of the Year by CASA. Scott Wasserman & Associates LLC was awarded Best Law Firm For Representing Special Needs Children by Keys for Networking, Inc.
Scott Wasserman has been certified by the Kansas Supreme Court as a guardian ad litem to represent children, and as a court approved mediator for custody disputes and parent/ adolescent conflict. He serves on the Juvenile Bench/Bar Committee and the Family Law Section of the Johnson County Bar Association. He frequently lectures to parent and youth groups about legal issues regarding children.
Scott is a member of the Council of Parent Attorneys and Advocates, an advocacy group for children in special education, and the National and Kansas Associations of Counsel for Children. He lectures at universities on resolving special education disputes without litigation and was a presenter at the national conference in Phoenix, Ariz., of the Council of Parent Advocates and Attorneys on the topic of professional ethics in special education law.
Kathy Barker graduated from Washington University School of Law in 1991. While in law school she was an associate editor of the Washington University Law Quarterly and published several scholarly articles. Additionally, she clerked for the Honorable Magistrate Judge Catherine D. Perry.
Kathys more than 11 years of experience practicing law consisted of a broad range of courtroom work, including representing both parents and children. Kathy has now focused her practice to serve those she truly loves, children.
Kathy continues to be an active member of the community, emphasizing her devotion to children. While in Wisconsin she served as the Community Involvement Committee chairperson of the Association of Womens Lawyers for six years. She worked regularly with the Boys and Girls Clubs of Greater Milwaukee to help coordinate a safe Halloween alternate for inner city children. Since coming to Kansas, she has become CASA certified. Additionally, she devotes many hours each week to volunteer in both of her childrens elementary school classrooms
Deanna Montgomery serves clients as a paralegal and business manager. As a paralegal, she prepares cases for trial, communicates with clients, and expedites production of documents. As business manager, she makes legal services accessible to clients and viable for the firm.
Advocating for children has long been Deannas career objective. She previously worked as a unit account manager for a national restaurant chain. She has prior paralegal experience for a general practitioner. She plans to attend law school to practice child advocacy law as an attorney with Scott Wasserman & Associates LLC.
